About Joseph
Joe Vito is a partner at Vito & Dollenmaier Law. He represents injured people throughout Chicagoland and the collar counties, with a focus on car accidents, dog bites, premises liability cases, and serious injury claims. Joe has spent more than 20 years working in personal injury law. Before representing injured people, he worked for insurance defense firms and later served as in-house counsel and an adjuster for American Family Insurance. That background gives Joe a clear understanding of how insurance companies evaluate claims, where they look for weaknesses, and why they often try to pay less than a case is worth. Today, Joe uses that experience to help injured clients level the playing field.
What Joe Does
Joe represents people who were hurt because someone else was careless. His work focuses on helping clients recover as much as possible while guiding them through the insurance claim process.
He regularly helps clients with cases involving:
- Car accidents
- Dog bites
- Premises liability
- Slip and fall injuries
- Serious injury cases
- Herniated discs and other soft tissue injuries requiring surgery
- Broken bones
- Permanent scarring and disfigurement
- Complex injury claims
Joe has a particular interest in premises liability cases and complex injury cases, including claims involving serious scarring or disfigurement.
Joe’s Approach to Clients
Joe’s role is to get clients the maximum recovery possible and help them avoid the common traps that come with insurance claims.
Clients often appreciate Joe’s candid approach. He explains complicated issues in a way that makes sense and does not talk over people. He understands that most injured clients have never dealt with a serious insurance claim before and need someone who can explain what matters, what does not, and what to expect next.
Joe is direct with clients because the outcome matters. If an insurance company is undervaluing a case, he explains why. If there are risks in the case, he explains those too.
What Joe Wants Injured People to Know
Insurance companies are not on your side.
Joe believes injured people should understand that insurance companies are businesses. Their goal is to keep as much money as possible and pay as little as possible on claims.
That does not mean every case is a fight from day one. But it does mean injured people should be careful before giving statements, signing paperwork, or accepting an offer without understanding the full value of the case.
Joe helps clients understand the process, protect their claim, and make informed decisions.
Case Types Joe Focuses On
Car Accident Cases
Joe represents people hurt in car crashes throughout Chicagoland and the collar counties. These cases may involve rear-end crashes, intersection crashes, distracted driving, uninsured drivers, and serious injuries that require long-term treatment.
Dog Bite Cases
Joe handles dog bite and animal attack cases involving serious wounds, scarring, disfigurement, and emotional trauma. These cases can be especially difficult when injuries leave permanent marks or affect a person’s confidence, work, or daily life.
Premises Liability Cases
Joe focuses heavily on premises liability cases. These include injuries that happen because a property was unsafe, poorly maintained, or dangerous. Premises liability cases can involve falls, unsafe walkways, dangerous conditions, poor lighting, and other hazards.
Serious Injury and Disfigurement Cases
Joe has experience with complex injury cases involving surgery, broken bones, permanent scarring, and disfigurement. These cases require careful preparation because the true impact of the injury often goes beyond the medical bills.
Joe’s Trial and Settlement Experience
Joe has tried more than 30 cases to jury verdict and has settled thousands of cases over his career.
His background includes work on both sides of personal injury claims. Early in his career, Joe worked for two mid-sized insurance defense firms. He later worked as in-house counsel and an adjuster for American Family Insurance. Since then, he has spent the remainder of his career representing injured people.
That mix of experience helps Joe understand how insurance companies think, how they value claims, and how to push back when they are not treating an injured person fairly.

Why Joe Became a Lawyer
Joe became a lawyer because he enjoys the challenge of an adversarial setting where the outcome matters.
In personal injury law, that outcome can make a major difference in a client’s life. Joe likes helping injured people because it levels the playing field between the client and the insurance company. Without a lawyer, injured people are often left to deal with insurance companies on their own. Joe’s job is to step in, protect the client, and work to get the most recovery possible.
Outside the Office
Outside the office, Joe enjoys golfing, cooking, bicycling, and taking his dog on long walks. He also enjoys spending time with his daughters at Woodfield Mall and traveling to new places with his wife.
