V&D LAW MYTHBUSTERS

Legal Myth: What Personal Injury Lawyers Are Really Like

TV built personal injury lawyers into larger-than-life billboard personalities. Attorney Joe Vito on what the job actually looks like — and why most of the lawyers you would want on your case are the ones you would run into at Woodfield Mall on a Saturday.

The Short Version

  1. TV gets the personality wrong

The commercial-star image is the exception, not the rule.

  2. Most PI lawyers are your neighbors

Suburban, local, and at the mall with their kids on weekends.

  3. Judge the work, not the billboard

A quieter attorney is not a less effective one.

Sarah: Hi, my name is Sarah and I’m with Joe Vito from Vito & Dollenmaier. And today we’ll be doing some myth busting. What’s something that TV gets wrong about personal injury lawyers?

Joe Vito: Well, on TV you see the commercials of these huge personality guys. A lot of them I’ve had the opportunity and pleasure to meet, but the reality is most of us personal injury lawyers are just normal, kind of suburban guys that hang out at Woodfield Mall on the weekends with their kids. And, you know, we do a great job. It’s just kind of misunderstood that everyone’s this big personality in our field.
